Introducing : The Altman Era Index (AEI)

Hello AI Brains community,

After reading every Sam Altman blog ever published (yes… all of them), I noticed something interesting: his thinking evolves in clear eras from pure speed, to system design, to governance and safety.

So I built a small reflection tool called the Altman Era Index (AEI) to help AI founders understand:

👉 Which Altman Era is your startup actually operating in?
👉 How resilient is your AI system across the next few frontier model cycles?

How it works :

You answer a few questions about how your AI startup functions — compute, intelligence, feedback loops, alignment, governance. The notebook then generates a report showing:

  • your Altman Era classification

  • node strengths + weak spots

  • drowning risks

  • wrapper/API exposure

  • survival forecast across future model releases

    It’s not a scorecard it’s a mirror.
A way to understand your system’s shape and where you might be exposed.

If you want help interpreting your output or want to discuss improvements, just ping me here or email [email protected].

A full write-up will be live soon on the AI Brains Newsletter.

Example of outputs :

It’s not a scorecard — it’s a reflection tool.
Something to help founders sense-check how they’re building and where their system balance lies. Let me know your thoughts.
